Product Description "Spring Lies Waiting" is Bill Deasy's "Astral Weeks." It's intimate, lyrical and evocative. From the opening riff of "So it Goes" (co-written with Kim Richey) to the final strum of "Still Not One of Them" Deasy explores the hidden valleys of the human heart. About the Artist Bill Deasy has established himself as one of the musical mainstays of his native Pittsburgh but his music has touched the hearts and imaginations of fans as far as Germany. He has played as an opening act for such artists as John Mellencamp and Bob Dylan. If you ever attended a Pittsburgh Pirates or Steelers game, you may have seen him performing the National Anthem. "When I was a little kid I had this strange fascination with Elvis Presley", Deasy says. "My brother was really into Neil Young and Crosby, Stills & Nash, and they've had a lasting impact on the way I write songs. But Van Morrison is my all-time hero. I don't think I sound or write like him, but I have every record he's ever made." As other influences, Deasy cites Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, John Hiatt and even his hobby as an avid reader. "I got into reading novels in high school, and that's affected me as much as anything," says Bill. "I approach songwriting almost like a novelist as far as the discipline of it, and I take what I do seriously from a literary point of view." At the center of everything, Bill Deasy is a songwriter with a lyrical and often uniquely introspective point of view. "When I write songs", says Deasy, " I try to take my life experience and put it out there in a way that people can relate to. I feel like I've done my job if a song resonates with other people; if it connects with them in some deeper way." Still, Deasy sounds just as comfortable singing a lighthearted pop song as he does a heart wrenching ballad or emotionally charged narrative. Deasy's first glimpse of national attention came with his band the Gathering Field, which he formed in 1994 with Pittsburgh guitarist/producer Dave Brown. "We had sent a copy of the Gathering Field's first independent album to the program director of WDVE, a really big station here," says Deasy. "A while later he called and he asked if we had anything new. I gave him a demo of this new song we'd done called 'Lost In America.'" A few weeks later, the song was in heavy rotation and became a regional hit. When the album "Lost In America" was released and sold over 3,000 copies in 2 weeks, major record labels started pursuing the band. The Gathering Field ultimately signed to Atlantic Records, who re-released the "Lost In America" album in 1997. Unfortunately, the label failed to duplicate the success that the album had achieved independently and the band struggled for 2 years to be released from their contract. Soon afterwards, the band put out another album entitled "Reliance" and also recently released "So Close To Home", an album of songs they'd played live for several years, but had never recorded. In January of 2000, Bill Deasy embarked on his solo career and released his first album entitled "Spring Lies Waiting." Deasy says, "I had written all these songs that didn't quite fit with the Gathering Field and I felt a need to get them out there." For Deasy, after 6 years devoted to the band, it was an opportunity for him to return to his roots as both a singer and songwriter and be able to express a vision all his own. It was also around this time that Bill started to focus on writing songs for other artists and began making regular trips to Nashville to collaborate. It was on his very first trip that "Good Things Are Happening" -- which ABC's Good Morning America adopted for a theme song -- was written. Deasy is currently putting the final touches on material for a new album.
